The Berkeley Electronic Press has published "Making the Case for an Institutional Repository to Your Provost."  The authors' stated goal of the paper is to "help you maximize the effectiveness of your message when you are ready to "sell" your provost's office on the value of the repository."
 
MIT faculty open access to their scholarly articles

March 2009

" In a move aimed at broadening access to MIT's research and scholarship, faculty at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have voted to make their scholarly articles available to the public for free and open access on the Web.The new policy, which was approved unanimously at an MIT faculty meeting on Wednesday, March 18 and took immediate effect, emphasizes MIT's commitment to disseminating the fruits of its research and scholarship as widely as possible." DSpace at a third of a million items

February 2009

Stuart Lewis blogged about some of the results of the JISC-funded ROAD (Robot-generated Open Access Data) project.  "DSpace at a third of a million items" is one part of the project which aims to "load test DSpace EPrints and Fedora to see how they cope with holding large numbers of items."

 
Baltimore SPARC IR & SUN PASIG Meetings: Tower Content & Evolving Online Scholarly Publishing Models

Carol Minton Morris of Fedora Commons provided a summary of the SPARC and SUN PASIG November 2008 meetings in Baltimore in her D-Lib Magazine article "SPARC IR & SUN PASIG Meetings: Tower Content & Evolving Online Scholarly Publishing Models" .

"At the SPARC Institutional Repositories (SPARC IR) Conference and the Sun Microsystems Preservation and Archiving Special Interest Group (PASIG) meeting, attendees reviewed new solutions and grappled with the thorny issues around creating technology and policies to support durable knowledge for future generations in an era of burgeoning information."
